Article 1 – The Aim of the Directory
The Official Directory of Art Professions in France's aim is to allow art professionals to become known to a national and international clientele in order to permit the financial development of French expertise, in France and abroad.
The design and implementation of the Official Directory of Art Professions in France has been entrusted to The Société d’Encouragement aux Métiers d’Art (the Company for Encouraging the Arts, the SEMA) by the Secretary of State for the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Employment in charge of Companies and External Trade, in the framework of his public services missions.
The design and implementation of the Official Directory of Art Professions in France has been entrusted to The Société d’Encouragement aux Métiers d’Art (the Company for Encouraging the Arts, the SEMA) by the Secretary of State for the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Employment in charge of Companies and External Trade, in the framework of his public services missions.
Article 2 – Editorial Committee
a) Composition
The editorial committee is presided by the Managing Director of the SEMA and is made up of :
- One person representing 3 Ministries (The Secretary of State for Companies and External Trade, for Culture and Communication and for National Education),
- One representative of the Assemblée Permanente des Chambres de Métiers (APCM, the Permanent Assembly of the Chamber of Trade),
- One representative of the following professional organisations: Ateliers d’Art de France (AAF), Confédération de l’Artisanat et des Petites Entreprises du Bâtiment (CAPEB), les Grands Ateliers, Union Française de la Bijouterie, Joaillerie, Orfèvrerie, des Pierres et des Perles (UFBJOP), Union Nationale de l'Artisanat des Métiers de l'Ameublement (UNAMA),
- Two representatives of the SEMA
- Two qualified personalities: Anne-Marie Boutin (President of the Agence pour la Promotion de la Création Industrielle, the Agency for the Promotion of Industrial Creation) and Gérard Laizé (Director of Valorisation de l’Innovation dans l’Ameublement),
- Other members of the Commission will also be contacted if necessary.
b) Missions
The editorial committee will determine the conditions for registration in or removal from the Official Directory of Art Professions in France and will ensure that the present rules are correctly implemented and notably that the articles 4,6 and 7 are strictly implemented.
c) Way of working
The editorial committee meets at least once a year.
The committee's decisions are taken by the absolute majority of members present or represented.

Article 3 – Conditions for registration in the Directory
Inscription in the Directory is conditioned by 5 criteria :
- The practise a profession listed in the Ministerial Decree of December 12 2003, whatever the professional status (for example: craftsman, craftsman-artist, craftsman-author, company etc.).
- The usage of traditional and innovative techniques, expertise and tools in order to create, change, repair or conserve works or objects of art that are either unique or produced in small quantities, by an individual or a team.
- Qualification and/or at least 6 years experience in the profession.
- The presence of a workshop in France.
- Up-to-date fiscal and social payments.
Article 4 - Modalities for registration
Registration in the Official Directory of Art Professions in France consists of four steps.
a) Pre-registration
The professionals pre-register themselves or their company by filling in the on-line form at www.annuaire-officiel-metiersdart.com. If they cannot do so, they can request an application form from the SEMA.
b) Supplying supporting documentation
The professionals must send the following supporting documents to the SEMA, who will keep them in all confidentiality :
- Proof of your registration status at the Répertoire des Métiers (Registry of Professions), the Registre du Commerce (the Trades Registry), the URSSAF for liberal professionals, a certificate of affiliation to the Maison des Artistes for craftsmen-authors etc.
- Qualifications demonstrating the necessary expertise for their field of activity or documentary evidence proving they have at least 6 years experience.
- Any document that proves their level of expertise (Master Craftsman, Best Workman of France, Living Heritage Company etc.)
- Any document that proves they have a workshop in France (electricity, telephone or water bill etc).
c) Acceptation of your request
Your registration will be accepted once the SEMA has verified the supporting documents specified in part b) of the present article. This conditions the information being posted on-line.
d) Posting on-line
Once your registration is accepted, the SEMA will post your information on the Official Directory of Art Professions in France's website.
Article 5 – Rights of the professionals inscribed in the Directory
The modified law of January 6 1978 "freedom and IT" applies in full to the professionals registered in the Directory. It notably provides professionals with the right to access and change information concerning them.
Article 6 - Obligations of the professionals inscribed in the Directory
The professional commits to :
- Continually respecting the conditions of the present rules,
- Notifying any changes in the information provided,
- Answering any request for information from the SEMA concerning these conditions.
Article 7 – Claims
The editorial committee will resolve any litigation concerning registration in or removal from the Official Directory of Art Professions in France.
Article 8 – Specific provisions
In conformity with the provisions of the law of July 1st 1998, the SEMA is the creator of the database for the Official Directory of Art Professions in France's website, which it also owns.
